Gister Method Lessons
The Gister Method begins with the play. It is an experiential methodology that centers on script analysis and transformation into a character. The Methodology uses a unique principle of action that asks the actor to focus on how they want to make their scene partner feel. This takes the emphasis off yourself as an actor and onto your scene partner.
My Journey with Gister
During my time at the University of Oklahoma, I was fortunate enough to come into close working relations with Dr. Joe Alberti. Dr. Alberti was a student of Earl Gister's during his time at the Yale School of Drama. Dr. Alberti spent many hours interviewing Gister for his dissertation about the Methodology, and later wrote the only book on the acting Method. I have spent the last three years studying the Gister Method under Dr. Alberti, and the last two years assistant teaching at TIAS and LCAS in Serbia and Budapest via zoom. I have developed a level of expertise in the Methodology, and have seen it change the way actors think about their craft. I believe in what the Gister Method can provide for an actor's craft.
